Cracking IIM is not easy and scoring high in CAT is another challenge. It needs consistency and confidence. A number of students score high and get a seat in the reputed institute. Aspirants must be focused and posses the ability and aptitude to score high. Those who are scoring more than 99 are getting selected in IIMs.

CAT has three sections comprising of 100 questions in total to be attempted in three hours. All it needs is speed, accuracy and presence of mind. One can achieve success in CAT exam by doing lot of practice and hard work.

Besides hard work and determination there is a dire need to organize your study plan while preparing for the CAT Exam. Let us discuss some important tips which will help you to prepare thoroughly for the exam.

Essential Tips to prepare for CAT Exam:

  1. Don’t be over-confident, be a learner and improve your knowledge. Improve your strengths and work on your weaknesses.
  2. Enjoy your studies rather than feeling bored. Boredom leads to negative thinking and will pinch you and your learning process. The moment you will start enjoying your studies there will be a visible improvement.
  3. One should be diligent and regular with your study plan and follow it religiously. You can take a break for some days from studies in case you feel bored or tired but come back afresh.
  4. In case it is your first attempt then do not forget to attempt a few mock tests to get the idea about the exam pattern. It will help you to evaluate your knowledge.
  5. Buy a good study material of any reputed author or publication. Thoroughly go through two main complex subjects i.e Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning.
  6. Solve question with time limit because CAT Exam demands speed. One needs to develop speed by practicing with the timer set. Try to solve at least18-20 questions in 30 minutes. Practicing within time limits will enhance your thinking power and stimulate your brain to think faster. It will maximize your score every time you practice with this temperament.
  7. Develop the art of leaving questions when you are not sure or find it difficult. In case you try to solve that question it will waste your precious time with no result. Do what you know and leave the rest to do it afterwards. In case those are left unanswered you will not regret.
  8. Make a separate notebook to write all the formulas of Quantitative Aptitude and revise them daily. Make it an extension of your mind by the time you are going to take the exam.

  10. To prepare for Verbal Ability or Reading Comprehension section, develop the habit of reading lot of newspaper and novels.   11. Mock tests are the sole and significant step in your CAT preparation. It train you for the final battle by simulating the same. Enroll in any of the mock test series for CAT and practice daily. Practice at least 30 mock tests and analyze your performance. Improve your weaknesses and then try another mock test to improve your score the next time. Also take sectional tests also to master the topics individually.
  12. Make a balanced performance for all the three sections as it is very important. Give more time to your weak areas and work on it until you are good at that too.
